Repairs on Vertical Windshields
Question:
My question centers on repairs to vertical windshields like on RVs. I use a “side-port” injector for these repairs. I carefully use a diamond drill to ensure the crack is free of loose material. The problem I have is that sometimes the auto glass resin (MagniBond) will not fully penetrate the entire length of the crack on these vertical windshields. Is there any way to attack these rogue cracks once the resin has set?
Answer:
If the resin has already cured the only thing you can do is drill the crack again, either from the end opposite the original injection point or from where the resin stopped flowing into the crack, then continue filling from that point. There is no reason that MagniBond will not completely fill a crack on a vertical windshield so I would look to the injection design or amount of resin being used to solve the problem, or perhaps a combination of the two.
Keep in mind that many RVs bus, and truck windshields are thicker than car windshields so they will require slightly more resin and a bit more time for the windshield repair resin to penetrate.
Can I use Cerium Oxide to Remove Glass Scratches?
Question:
Will I be able to remove scratches on my windshield with the Cerium Oxide Buffing Compound?
Answer:
Yes, we use Cerium Oxide and our Polishing Head to remove light scratches from windshields. This combination is also used by many windshield suppliers to remove light scratches from “new” windshields before delivery to glass shops. If you order this product be sure to request our scratch polishing instructions.
The key to scratch removal is patience, persistence and properly identifying that types of scratches that can be removed successfully. As a rule of thumb if a scratch is deep enough that you can catch a fingernail in it the likelihood of satisfactory removal is greatly diminished. Keep in mind this is a very labor intensive process so the longer the scratch the longer it will take to remove it, and if the windshield is covered in scratches it is probably not cost effective to try and remove them.
Spraying vs Wiping on Infinity 4.1 Headlight Restoration Coating
Question:
How do you recommend spraying the Infinity 4.1? Is there any advantage to spraying over wiping on?
Answer:
Delta Kits doesn’t recommend spraying the Infinity 4.1 Headlight Restoration Coating. The Infinity 4.1 coating was engineered and formulated to be applied only by using the lint free paper-towel wipe-on method. There’s no advantage of spraying the Infinity 4.1.

How Does the Coat2Protect Headlight Coating Work?

How does the Coat2Protect kit work? I have a Renault Clio 182 sport 2004 plate. The headlights are renowned for losing their shine so I am looking to restore them without the use of a sander. I’ve watched this video on YouTube saying he used your kit. Does the kit just place a shine to bring it back to new?

Answer:
The video you referenced in your email shows Delta Kits Infinity 4.1 headlight restoration coating being applied to the headlights and as you can see from the video it does do a remarkable job of putting a shine on the headlights. Even more important is how long lasting the Infinity 4.1 protective coating is. It is a simple task to shine up a headlight but if the proper coating is not applied it will not last.
What the video does not show is the preparation necessary prior to applying Infinity 4.1. Sanding off the original coating and any contamination embedded into the Polycarbonate headlight surface is absolutely necessary and proper sanding requires several steps before Infinity 4.1 should be applied. Not sanding will provide undesirable results. Have a look at this short video of the sanding process:
You indicated that you are looking to restore your headlights without the use of a sander. While it is possible to sand by hand, it is a very time consuming and labor intensive process so we do not recommend it. It is better to do the job correctly, which is quite easy with the proper tools, or hire a professional to do it for you.
The “kit” you referenced is the coating only. What you need to make your headlights look like they do in the video is a complete headlight restoration system.
