It’s nice to make money during the summer season while enjoying the sunshine. Also, the Vitamin D produced in your body as a result of sunlight exposure plays a significant role in nourishing and energizing the human body. But, it’s important to remember that excessive exposure to sunlight can also cause health problems later on in your life. Here are a few things to remember as you’re completing windshield repairs, or doing other activities in the direct sunlight:
- Consider your current health condition and problems before spending a lot of time in the sun. Drink plenty of fluids so your body remains hydrated.
- If you can see light through clothing fabric, UV rays can get through, too. Be aware that covering up doesn’t block out all UV rays. While working in the sun, be sure to wear sunglasses and the right clothing to protect your eyes and skin as much as possible. Hats, long-sleeved shirts and long pants cover a large amount of skin and are the most protective.
- Read the labels on your sunscreen or sun block, and remember it does not offer 100% protection. The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) displayed on sunscreen labels refers to the product’s ability to screen or block out the sun’s rays. For example, if you use a sunscreen with an SPF 15, you should be able to stay in the sun 15 times longer than you could without sunscreen before burning.
- Mobile Techs: Remember to move the vehicle into a shaded area, if possible. Before you drive out to a job, you can ask the customer to park the car indoors, under a tent or under an awning. This will help reduce your exposure to the sunlight, and the glass will be cooler when you arrive to start the repair.
Enjoy your summer, but remember to consider each of the above items before working in the sun for long periods of time. Safety first!
